The Coordinator of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), in Anambra State, Mrs. Blessing Ekene Iruma, has urged community stakeholders to prioritise the security and welfare of corps members serving in their communities in order to maximize their potential.
The NYSC Coordinator stated this while speaking to Voice of Nigeria in Nibo, Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State where she narrated that harnessing the potential of corps members remains a catalyst for the development of the communities and its citizens.
Mrs. Iruma affirmed that corps members are ready to fill the vacuum in the effort geared towards the development of the people, especially those in rural communities.
She appealed for maximum support for them to bring out their individual talents and professionalism to excel and improve the state and nation at large.
She disclosed that they have initiated efforts to rekindle the spirit of corps members to perform community development services which she said is a strategy to create lasting legacies in their host communities.
The coordinator commended the innovation of the “One Youth, Two Skills” initiative of the Governor Chukwuma Soludo administration, aimed at empowering the youth, equipping them with a diverse set of skills, fostering self-reliance and entrepreneurship.
“The initiative will also equip young individuals with practical skills that will enhance their employability and entrepreneurial spirit as it addresses the need for diversified talents in today’s competitive landscape and skill development in the state.”
She acknowledged that over 100 slots allocated to NYSC members in Anambra have already been filled, expressing enthusiasm that the initiative will help them expand their skill sets beyond their primary academic disciplines and also help them to bridge the gap between formal and practical education, hands-on skills needed for today’s dynamic job market.
