CP Ikioye Orutugu has officially assumed office as the 35th Commissioner of Police for Anambra State, vowing to improve security and maintain peace throughout the region.

His appointment by the Police Service Commission followed the reassignment of his predecessor, CP Nnaghe Itam, to the force headquarters.

Orutugu began his tenure on Monday with a visit to the scene of a shocking crime in Uruagu Nnewi, Nnewi North Local Government Area, where three young siblings—aged five, seven, and nine—were tragically found murdered and hidden in a refrigerator while their parents were away.

The police have sealed off the house and launched a full investigation into the crime. During his visit, CP Orutugu met with the victims’ parents and toured the crime scene.

Speaking to the press, Orutugu extended his condolences to the grieving family and reaffirmed the police’s commitment to bringing those responsible for the heinous act to justice.

He emphasised his dedication to enhancing security in the state, stating,

“I am committed to stabilising the security landscape and restoring peace across the state.”

He highlighted the police’s focus on tackling crimes such as public attacks and kidnappings, noting recent successes in crime-fighting efforts within Anambra.

Orutugu also praised the collaborative efforts between Anambra’s communities and the state government, particularly initiatives like Operation Udo Ga Chi, aimed at fostering unity against security threats.

He stressed the importance of strategic intelligence, cooperation with other security agencies, and collaboration with local vigilante groups to improve law enforcement.

He encouraged citizens to uphold the law and support the police in the fight against crime, further sending a strong message to criminals:

“For those who have been misled into crime, I urge you to reconsider your choices, as the police are prepared to confront criminal acts without regard for status.”

CP Orutugu, born on August 3, 1966, in Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, began his policing career in 1992. He holds a Bachelor’s in Political Science, a Master’s in Public Administration, and a Ph.D. in Sociology of Education.

With a wealth of experience across various law enforcement roles, Orutugu is poised to lead the Anambra State Police Command in its mission to ensure safety and justice for the people of the state.
