Anambra State: President Tinubu Flags Off Second Niger Bridge Access Road

President Bola Tinubu has inaugurated Phase 2B of the access road to the Second Niger Bridge, a key infrastructure project connecting Delta and Anambra states.

The flag-off ceremony, held in Ogbunike, Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State, was on behalf of the President, performed by the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi. Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo with other dignitaries in attendance.

The 35-kilometer road project, which includes seven flyovers and a bridge, is expected to enhance connectivity between Atani, Obosi, Nkpor, and Ogbunike.

Governor Soludo described the project as ‘a transformative development that would ease traffic congestion,’ particularly around Onitsha, and boost economic activities in Anambra.

He expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for his commitment to the project and emphasised that completing the access road is crucial to maximising the full benefits of the Second Niger Bridge, inaugurated in 2023.

Strong collaboration

Governor Soludo also highlighted the need for strong federal-state collaboration in infrastructure development.

The Minister, Dave Umahi praised Governor Soludo’s leadership and noted that Anambra State currently has 18 ongoing federal road projects.

He assured stakeholders that “30 percent of the project’s funding has been released, with further payments tied to work progress.

The Minister urged the local communities to support the project, emphasising that uninterrupted construction was essential for timely completion.

The project, managed by CGC Nigeria Limited, will feature a 17.5-kilometer dual carriageway, solar-powered streetlights, and security cameras.

Carlos Chen, CGC Nigeria Limited’s Southern General Manager, pledged that the project would be completed on schedule, following international best practices.

Community leaders welcomed the development, with Igwe Chidubem Iweka, Chairman of the Anambra State Traditional Rulers’ Council, expressing optimism about the project’s benefits for the people.

Representing Oyi and Ayamelum Federal Constituency, Maureen Gwacham called for federal support for Governor Soludo’s re-election in 2025, stressing the importance of continued infrastructure investment in the region.

She added that “the completion of the Second Niger Bridge access road will transform transportation in Southeast Nigeria, boosting economic growth and improving the quality of life for residents.”
