The Labour Party’s (LP) candidate for Anambra North senatorial Zone, Dr. Tony Nwoye, has urged Nigerian youths to be part of the electoral system to enable them determine who to lead them in come 2023 general elections.
“Youths need to collect their Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) and condemn all sorts of electoral, tribalistic and religious sentiments.
“Campaign on social media is entirely different from actualizing their dreams through voting,” he said.
Nwoye, a one-time president of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), spoke at his residence in Nsugbe, Anambra East Local Government Area of the state while signing a peace accord to show his commitment towards peaceful and credible polls.
He said his major interest was inclusion of youths and persons with disabilities, underscoring the need for them to be encouraged, engaged and empowered to ensure a peaceful nation.
He, however, regretted that some youths were engaged in some vices, rather than channeling their energies into something positive.
“I pay regular visits to some universities and polytechnics to lecture the youths on the need for the youths not be negatively engaged during the upcoming election.
“I always advise the youths to be part of the system and determine who to lead.
“Cast your votes without violence; election is not a fight, neither is it a war.
“It is about the process of selecting who to represent us come 2023,” he said.
Earlier, the Executive Director, Catch Them Young Community Initiative (CATYCOI), Nonso Orakwe, said the visit was to partner with the candidate to foster peaceful and credible election in his zone:
“The purpose of this visit is to partner with you as a politician to foster a peaceful and credible election in your zone come 2023 general election through your subordinates/followers.
“Catch Them Young Community Initiative (CATYCOI) is a youth-led organization poised to promote good governance and democracy; while ‘Vote, not fight; Election no be War’ is a non-partisan voter education to promote fair, peaceful and credible elections in Nigeria.
“Therefore, we are here for you to make a commitment for a peaceful election and to support the Youth, Women and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) agenda.”
