Anambra state Set To Evacuate 10,000 Tonnes Plastic Waste

Anambra State Government says it has articulated a working strategy to rid the state of 10,000 tonnes of plastic waste.

The State Commissioner for Environment, Engr. Felix Odimegwu made the disclosure in Awka during a media briefing to commemorate this year’s World Environment Day.

He explained that government considered it important to initiate immediate and Sustained action against indiscriminate disposal of plastic waste across the state.

While describing the theme for this year’s celebration, “Solution To Plastic Pollution” as timely, he added that the ministry would stage maiden edition of its campaign tagged, “Anambra Plastic Challenge” to achieve plastic free environment.

The Commissioner who called for wider stakeholders participation, urged Community Leaders, Park Owners, Market Leaders to partner government for a seamless exercise, pointing out that a reward of N1m awaited any community that took the first position in plastic waste collection.

He, then, encouraged the citizenry to take ownership of their environment,stating that government has evolved means of ensuring effective plastic waste management system using recycle,re- purpose and refuse model.
