The closing ceremony of the maiden Anambra State Traders Sports Competition (ASTSC), is scheduled to hold on Friday, December 8th 2023 with final and third place matches of the football event.
Iron Dealers Market, Atani in Ogbaru Local Government Area (LGA) and Nkwo Umunze Market in Orumba South LGA will battle for the first and second places. Meanwhile, Ajasa Market Onitsha will battle New Motor Spare Parts, Nnewi for third place.
The third place and final matches will hold by 10am and 1pm, respectively, at the Awka Township Stadium. Patrick-Estate Onyedum, Chairman of Anambra State Sports Development Commission said this after a meeting of the Main Organising Committee of the event on Friday.
Onyedum stated that Governor Chukwuma Soludo, would be around to witness the final of the seven-week long sports competition for traders in Anambra and also handover prizes to deserving teams and individuals.
He said the finals for four other events featured in the competition including Tennis, Table Tennis, Draught and Ncho would hold on Thursday December 7th at the City Sports Club in Amawbia, Awka, the State capital.
For Draught, Ifeanyi Osunwa of Building Materials Market, Awka will play with Raphael Okoli from Plastic Market, Ogbunike for the first and second places
In Ncho, Emeka Okoye from Eke Amawbia Market will play with Michael Ibegwa of Electrical Market Obosi in the first semi final of the game.
Arinze Nwafor of 25D Blessed Line, Odekpe and Nzeka Esther of Nkwo Umunze Market, will contest for the second final slot. The final and semi final will be played later on the same date.
In Table Tennis Nnaemeka Okoli of Nkwo market Umunze will square up on the table against Olie Onochie (New Tyre Nkpor) for the ultimate prize. Ikenna Okafor of Eke Amawbia Market will fight for a third place finish against Ndudi Ifinwa representing AMSPDA, Nnewi.
Obidike Emeka representing Odera Market Awka will play with Fidelis Anierobi (AMSPDA Nnewi) in the Tennis final, while Ezeobi Oliver (Etewa Market, Ekwulobia) and Kenechukwu Sixtus (Building Materials, Ogbunike) will play for the third place.
Onyedum further stated that mouthwatering prizes would be won by traders and lovers of sports, who purchased lottery tickets for the competition and that draws would be held on the final day.
He called on residents of Anambra across all walks of life to turnout enmass on Thursday at the City Sports Club in Amawbia and on Friday at the Awka Township Stadium, to cheer the teams to victory and enjoy good games.
The Sports Commission Chairman commended the markets for the massive participation and impressive performances, while charging them to maintain the spirit of sportsmanship till the end of competition.
