This state-of-the-art facility was handed over to the Anambra State Government by the Enugwu-Agidi Progressive Union, based in the United States (EPU-USA). Along with the newly built and furnished ward, the group also completed renovations on three existing buildings within the hospital and provided accommodations for doctors at the health centre.

During the commissioning event, the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike, praised the EPU-USA for its commitment to the Public-Private Community Partnership (PPCP) initiative championed by Governor Charles Soludo’s administration. Dr. Obidike emphasized the importance of community involvement, urging other communities to emulate the EPU-USA’s proactive approach, as the state cannot achieve development in isolation.

He announced that the healthcare centre will soon be integrated into the state telemedicine network to enhance service delivery for the community. Dr. Obidike also reassured attendees of his commitment to monitoring the facility to ensure healthcare workers meet the needs of those seeking care. He revealed plans to install a 5KVA solar power system at the centre to bolster the community’s healthcare efforts.

Earlier in the event, Chief Sunny Okoye, President General of EPU-USA, articulated the impetus for the project—an urgent need for improved healthcare services in Enugwu-Agidi. He called on the state government to address ongoing challenges faced by the hospital, including staffing, electricity supply, and the acquisition of essential equipment for quality healthcare delivery.

Members of EPU-USA, including Dr. Christian Nwankwo and Chief JohnChris Okoye, expressed their satisfaction with the project and their commitment to supporting the union’s leadership in fostering further development in Enugwu-Agidi.

The event was attended by notable figures, including the Traditional Ruler of Enugwu-Agidi, Igwe Michael Okeke-Uche, the former Transition Committee Chairman of Njikoka Council Area, Mr. Clement Aguiyi, and esteemed community member Professor Emeka Nwankwo. They collectively commended the EPU-USA for addressing one of the community’s primary challenges and encouraged other organizations to follow suit in their efforts for a better Enugwu-Agidi.
