The Anambra State Ministry of Health, through its Taskforce on Counterfeit, Fake Drugs and Unwholesome Processed Food, has conducted a significant operation against shops selling counterfeit drugs and food supplements at Eke Awka Market.

During a press briefing, Pharm. Obum Madike, the State Chairman of the Taskforce, announced that the raid was executed in accordance with Section C34 of the Counterfeit, Fake Drugs and Unwholesome Processed Foods Miscellaneous Provision Act of 1999.

Pharm. Madike further explained that the targeted shops were implicated in the sale of unregistered drugs and non-compliance with essential regulatory standards.

“We have sealed all affected shops in Eke Awka Market and have warned others to refrain from indulging in similar dubious practices. Those caught will face prosecution,” he stated.

As the Director of Pharmaceutical Services at the Anambra State Ministry of Health, Pharm. Madike affirmed the Taskforce’s commitment to ridding the state of fake drugs, aligning with Governor Charles Soludo’s vision of making Anambra a peaceful, secure, livable, and prosperous state in Nigeria.

“The primary goal of this operation is to curb and eliminate the rising circulation of counterfeit drugs. Many people are unknowingly consuming fake drugs and food supplements, leading to needless fatalities,” he stated.

Pharm. Madike reassured the public that this operation marks a decisive step towards eradicating counterfeit products from Anambra State, reinforcing the mandate of the Taskforce to combat the menace of fake and unwholesome items.
