The Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) Igbariam, Anambra State, Southeast Nigeria, has partnered with Bliss Team Educational Services Limited (Bredhub-UBTech), a leading AI and Robotics company, to enhance AI and Robotics education.

This collaboration aims to equip students and other members of the institution with practical experience in robotics and programming.

The partnership was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed at the COOU Acting Vice Chancellor’s office.

According to COOU’s Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kate Omenugha, this MoU represents a significant milestone for the university, aligning with her administration’s goal to integrate academic and social components into the institution.

“When we came into this university, we aimed to combine academic and social elements in our activities. This has turned the university into a hub of academic activity over the past seven months of my administration,” Prof. Omenugha stated.

She added, “Inspired by Governor Chukwuma Soludo, we have prepared for this project with 13 weeks of AI and Robotics training conducted by Prof. Umedum and Prof. Agofuru.”

Prof. Omenugha emphasized the university’s commitment to community service and hoped for a sustained partnership with Bredhub-UBTech for mutual benefit.

Mr. Chukwuemeka Fred Agbata (CFA), Managing Director of Anambra State ICT Agency, noted that the MoU aligns with Governor Soludo’s manifesto to update the educational curriculum to include coding, AI, and Robotics.

He remarked, “This initiative will provide COOU students with hands-on experience with real-time robots and contribute to the tech revolution, similar to Stanford University’s role in the creation of Silicon Valley.”

CFA expressed hope that COOU would play a key role in advancing Anambra’s tech sector as envisioned by the governor.

He stated, “Training students in AI and robotics will significantly impact their future careers and prepare them for the evolving job market. This opportunity will help them tackle challenges using technology and align with the fourth industrial revolution.”

Ahamefule added, “We aim to integrate this knowledge into a national innovation centre, empowering students to shape the future and address global challenges.”

Izuchukwu Mojekwu, Executive Director of Africa Operations at Bredhub-UBTech, highlighted their commitment to providing a comprehensive learning experience, predicting that the university will produce global leaders in AI and Robotics within four years.

Following the MoU signing, a robotics demonstration was held at the Faculty of Social Sciences, where students expressed excitement about handling and programming robots.

Ifeoma Okeke, a student from the Political Science department, said, “It was a memorable experience. Learning to use these tools to solve problems will greatly benefit students in accessing technological innovations for their fields.”

Bredhub-UBTech will collaborate closely with COOU to establish state-of-the-art facilities and certificate programs, aiming to enhance research, development, and educational opportunities in AI and Robotics in the state.
