ANSPOLY Hosts Conference on Innovation for Sustainable Development

Dr. Njideka Chiekezie, the Acting Rector of Anambra State Polytechnic (ANSPOLY), Mgbakwu, highlighted the significance of academic conferences in advancing knowledge, promoting innovation, and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, even during a relatively modest academic gathering.

This message struck a chord during the 3rd International Multi-Disciplinary Academic Conference held at ANSPOLY. Dr. Chiekezie delivered an enlightening account of the institution’s evolution, tracing its transformation from a School of Agriculture in Igbariam to becoming Anambra’s sole state polytechnic.
“Established under the Anambra State Polytechnic Mgbakwu Law of 2017, ANSPOLY aims to be a leading institution with a strong academic foundation that emphasizes technological skills, moral values, and entrepreneurial spirit among its students.”
The conference, themed “Innovation for Sustainable Development in a Digital Era,” aimed to explore the intricate relationship between innovation, sustainability, and digital technologies in fostering development. Dr. Chiekezie expressed her gratitude to the chairman of the occasion, Prof. Ellis Idemobi, keynote speakers, presenters, sponsors, partners, and the organizing committee, acknowledging their roles in making the event a success.
Emphasizing the conference’s key goals, Dr. Chiekezie underscored the importance of knowledge sharing, research dissemination, networking, and capacity-building as essential for promoting active engagement and collective knowledge creation among participants. She also highlighted the eagerly awaited award ceremony, set to honor 16 individuals for their exceptional contributions to various fields. Dr. Chiekezie assured attendees of a deeply enriching experience and wished everyone a safe journey home at the conclusion of the event.
Professor Chidi Odinkalu, the lead presenter, delivered a thought-provoking virtual presentation, emphasizing the growing recognition of innovation as a cornerstone for sustainable development and harmonious coexistence in Southeast Nigeria. He highlighted a notable rise in innovative solutions addressing critical social, economic, and environmental challenges, ranging from renewable energy projects to digital entrepreneurship ventures.
Highlighting the importance of sustainable agriculture, he demonstrated how local farmers are combining agroecological practices with modern technology to boost productivity while preserving the environment.
“This approach not only promotes long-term sustainability but also bolsters community resilience and mitigates conflicts over dwindling resources.”
Ms. Chinwe Okoli, Senior Special Assistant to Governor Soludo on Innovation and Business Incubation, delivered a compelling presentation through her representative, Anajemba Ike, focusing on the role of innovation in tackling contemporary societal challenges. Through her address, she highlighted how the digital age can drive sustainable development. Her discussion included crucial aspects such as the need for inclusive digital infrastructure, education and capacity development, public-private partnerships, and regulatory frameworks that support innovative efforts.
The chairman of the Local Organising Committee, Uzondu Scholastica, expressed appreciation to the guests and the organizing team. She remarked that the conference theme reflects a collective commitment to discovering innovative solutions that can have a positive impact on businesses, communities, and the broader world.
Dr Ekene Nwankwo, Chairman publicity and fund raising also appreciated the guests for gracing the 3-day conference that ended Thursday.
The event also featured interactive sessions, with notable contributions from experts such as Professor Longe Olumide, Vice Chancellor of West Midlands Open University, Lagos, and Professor Kate Omenugha, acting Vice Chancellor of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University. The award ceremony recognized 16 deserving individuals, including key government officials and community leaders for their outstanding contributions to academia and public service.
The International Multi-Disciplinary Academic Conference showcased ANSPOLY’s unwavering dedication to academic excellence, innovation, and sustainable development in the evolving digital era. The event created a dynamic platform for meaningful dialogue, idea exchange, and collaboration among scholars, researchers, and industry leaders, reinforcing ANSPOLY’s mission to prepare students for success in an increasingly technology-driven world.
