The President and Chairman of Council, Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers, Johnbull Amayaevbo has charged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commisssion, EFCC to go after all those that are making false declarations about their assets.
According to him, such people that declare below or above their assets must be dealt with in accordance with the stipulated laws.
Amayaevbo made his position known during an interview with newsmen in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, North Central Nigeria.
He said every declarant is required by law to declare his or her assets and liabilities honestly and sincerely while failure to do so as required by law should attract stiffer penalty.
The President urged members of the Institution to work with honesty and devotion which according to him, is the motto of the body.
He lamented that the intolerance of corruption was growing around the world, and that this has made the fight against the menace at the national and international levels a topic of unabated relevance for the United Nations and it’s member states.
According to him, part of the functions of the institution is to regulate and control the practice of the profession of Estate Surveying and Valuation in the country and to as well help in curbing corruption by ensuring that they value and evaluate landed properties of public Office holders .
Amayaevbo disclosed that the institution in it’s about fifty four years of existence has in line with its aims and objectives successfully promoted the general interests of the profession, while maintaining and extending it’s usefulness for the public good by advising members of the public, government departments, associations , statutory bodies and local bodies.
He noted that asset valuation was imperative in any country, as it is a tool for measuring the economic growth and development of any nation.
Speaking on the just concluded 53rd annual conference of the Nigerian Institute of Estate Surveyors and valuers, Amayevbo expressed satisfaction and appreciated all dignitaries that were present, including the State Governor, Mallam Abdul Rahman AbdulRazaq, the Emir Of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu Gambari , other traditional rulers, the former President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama and guest speakers at the weeklong programme.
He expressed optimism in the administration of President Bola Tinubu and commended him for the decisions he has made within the last few weeks of resuming office.
