Anti-Party Activities: APC expels Gombe South Senator, Y-Deba Reps member
Rebecca Mu’azu, Gombe
The All Progressives Congress in Gombe State has once again expelled the Senator Representing Gombe South Senatorial District, Senator Bulus Amos and the member representing Yamaltu/Deba Federal Constituency, Mr. Yunusa Abubakar, from the party over alleged anti-party activities during the 2023 general election.
Senator Amos becomes the second senator to be expelled by the Gombe State APC, after Senator Muhammad Danjuma Goje, was expelled from the party on April 18, over the allegation of anti-party activities.
Mr. Muhammad Kaka, the Chairman of the APC in Bambam Ward of Balanga Local Government Area of Gombe State, told journalists in Bambam that the ward executives were left with only one choice of expelling the senator, because he failed to defend himself against allegations leveled against him.
“We held elections in our ward during the just concluded general elections and we have Sen. Amos from our ward who didn’t come out to partake in our political activities. Instead the senator went round with his supporters telling them not to vote for the APC and in his polling unit and the surrounding polling units APC didn’t win any of those units because of his anti-party activities. This really disturbed the executives at the ward and we sat down to examine this and decided to summon him to defend himself and explain why he did what he did,” Kaka said.
The chairman, however, said Senator Amos appeared before the committee set up to probe him and others who engage in anti-party activities, but that he could not explain his involvement in the alleged anti-party activities.
He said another chance was extended to him, which he yet again refused to honour.
According to Kaka, the senator went ahead to threaten ward executives and said they had no right to expel him from the party.
“It is in view of this that we, the executives at the ward decided to expel Sen. Amos from our party,” said Mr. Kaka.
He said the action by the party executives in Bambam Ward had been endorsed by the local government, as well as the Gombe South Zonal Executives, “that’s why they are all here today.”
Reacting to the sack by the APC, the Media Aide to Senator Amos, Mr. Felix Manasseh, described the action of the ward executives as political witch-hunt and a preconceived idea against the senator.
Mr. Manasseh accused the ward and LG executives of acting on the script of their paid masters against the serving senator.
“Sen. Amos has served APC from the national down to the zone and he has paid his dues having brought light to APC as far as Tangale-Waja is concerned. He donated his own house to be used as a zonal party office and yet no one is talking about his contributions suddenly because of a political witch-hunt.
For those that accused him of losing his polling unit, who in Gombe State can boast of victory in his unit during the Presidential election,” said Mr. Manasseh.
He, however, said Senator Amos was able to deliver his state assembly election and delivered his local government during the Governorship Election.
Similarly, the APC in Gombe has expelled the member representing Yamaltu/Deba Federal Constituency, Mr. Yunusa Abubakar, over alleged anti-party activities during the February and March elections.
Mr. Sama’ila Aliyu, the Secretary of the party at Lubo/Kinafa/Difa Ward of Yamaltu/Deba Local Government, where Mr. Abubakar is representing, said the lawmaker had failed to appear before the panel set up to investigate his alleged anti-party activities.
Mr. Aliyu said the executives also extended another invitation to him to defend himself, but Abubakar failed to appear before it.
“For all his anti-party activities and his inability to come and defend himself in the spirit of fair hearing and justice, it is clear that he engaged in anti-party activities and we all saw it. We the executives have decided to expel Abubakar from our party,” he said.
