The All Progressives Congress (APC) has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to cancel the Shanono/Bagwai State Constituency by-election and the Ghari constituency rerun in Kano State, North-west, Nigeria citing widespread violence and disruption.
According to the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka armed thugs attacked several polling units, forcing voters to flee while overwhelming security personnel, thereby making credible elections impossible.
APC warned that proceeding under such conditions would undermine democratic principles of free, fair, and peaceful elections, and set a dangerous precedent for electoral malpractice.
“Proceeding with the Shanono/Bagwai Kano State Constituency by-election and Ghari rerun election in the atmosphere of utter brigandage and outright violent voter intimidation will be against democratic dictates of free, fair and peaceful election, and set a dangerous precedent for undesirable and unacceptable electoral heist”. Mr. Morka said.
