The All Progressive Congress, APC State Chairman, Isah Sadiq Achida, has expressed concern over the recent disclosure by State Government to receive another huge loan of 28.7 billion Naira.
Achida, raised the concern while briefing journalists on the development at the Party headquarters in Sokoto. He explained that Sokoto State will become the second most indebted state in the country, after Lagos State if the loans continue to rise.
“We are disturbed by the fact that a state like Sokoto with an economy that is weak, is further being impoverished with loans that are most likely to be squandered on non-profitable ventures. This will amount to act of wickedness to saddle our unborn children with debts that are inexplicable, loans that cannot be translated in to tangible projects.”
Achida added that people of the state were seriously disturbed with the manner the People’s Democratic Party led administration has been running the affairs of Sokoto State.
“It is unfortunate that many people cannot distinguish between politics and administration. The People Democratic Party administration in Sokoto is a complete failure, because while other States are celebrating dividends of democracy, we in Sokoto have nothing to celebrate,” he stated.
He also urged the government to ensure timely completion of all the ongoing projects across the state. He said the government should not concentrate only on metropolitan, because more than eighty percent of local government in the State remains neglected.
The Party Chairman also called on the government to stop the unnecessary removal of local government staff from payroll to ensure transparency and accountability.
