The Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on Nigerian youths to embrace democratic values and support the government’s “Renewed Hope Agenda” aimed at fostering a sustainable future for the nation.

His remarks were made during the 14th edition of the Democracy Newsline Newspaper lecture and awards ceremony held in Abuja.

Durosinmi Meseko acknowledged the various challenges currently facing the country, expressing confidence in the government’s commitment to addressing these issues. “The government is sincere in tackling the root causes of our problems, and soon we will witness sustainable benefits,” he stated.

He cautioned against calls for a return to military rule, asserting that even the most flawed civilian government is preferable to a military dictatorship. “Under military rule, you lose your rights; you can’t even protest. Freedom is invaluable,” he emphasised.

Addressing the economic hardships many Nigerians are experiencing, Meseko likened the current situation to the labor pains of a pregnant woman. “While there is suffering, we believe that, like childbirth, there will be joy once we navigate through these challenges. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is laying a sustainable foundation for the growth of this nation,” he explained.

Meseko also urged the youth to engage with government initiatives and emphasised the importance of improving communication between the government and younger generations. He highlighted the upcoming National Youth Conference, which was announced by President Tinubu, as a crucial opportunity for youth engagement. “We need to hear the youth’s perspectives on what they want and how we can bridge existing gaps,” he said.

At the event, Meseko was honored with the “Politician of the Year” award by Michabifem Ventures Limited, the publishers of Democracy Newsline Newspaper and Weblog, in recognition of his contributions to democracy and youth empowerment in Nigeria.
