The Kano state Chapter of the All Progressive Congress, APC, has condemned in strongest terms the ongoing demolition of properties belonging to individuals and corporate bodies by the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, led administration in the state.
The Deputy Chairman, APC, Kano State Chapter, Shehu Maigari made the condemnation at a press briefing in Kano state north Western Nigeria.
He said the the demolition exercise which has led to the destruction of properties worth billions of naira has brought chaos, especially to the economic interest of the second biggest commercial city in Nigeria, which also serves many neighbouring west African countries.
He, however urged victims of the demolition to remain calm and seek justice in the law court as sales of government properties to the public by successive governors in the state is not new.
“Kano being a mega city and a commercial nerve centre of the Northern region and other west African countries is now facing a serious calamity from the NNPP led administration.
“The action of the Government has brought unnecessary chaos, rampant vandalism, daylight stealing and grabbing of innocent people’s property by the youths.
“We therefore call on all those affected by exercise to be patient, maintain calmness and explore all legal means to protect their properties and seek legal redress for the damages done and loses incurred.
“The sale of government properties is not new in the state, most past governors in the state did it. So that of Ganduje is not new,” he said.
He advised parents and guardians to caution their children on the danger and implications of looting people’s properties, urging them to desist from the act.
Maigari equally called on security agencies in the state to step up actions that will restore the people’s confidence in the light of shock and calamity that befell the state.
It would be recalled that the incumbent Governor of Kano state Abba Kabir Yusuf under the NNPP, had embarked on demolition and revocation of public lands and properties that he said were illegally sold to private and corporate bodies by the immediate past APC regime in the state, led by former governor Dr. Umar Ganduje
Properties so far demolished by the incumbent governor, among others includes: the Multi-billion naira properties built on the former Daula Hotel, the Hajj camp, the Truimph Newspapers, while the sale of Hasiya Bayero Pediatrics hospital was revoked.
Governor Abba cited public interest as reasons behind the demolition and revocation exercise.
