The All Progressives Congress has conducted ward, local government and national delegates’ congress, through affirmation in all 114 wards and 11 local government areas of Gombe state, in preparation for the party primaries to be conducted next week.

Speaking with journalists after observing the process, in which the APC adopted the consensus method, the Acting Head of Department Voter Education and Publicity of the Independent National Electoral Commission in Gombe State, Mr. Nuhu Ibrahim, said the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr. Umar Ibrahim, was in attendance and witnessed the process being carried out.

According to Mr. Ibrahim, the adoption of consensus means was acceptable by the Electoral Act 2022, which allowed for either direct, indirect or consensus.
He said INEC had also affirmed the process.

Dr. Danjuma Adamu Dabo, the Chairman of the Committee from the APC Headquarters sent to conduct the congress, said they had witnessed the congress in which the delegates would be required to conduct the primaries for the local, state and national levels.

Dr. Dabo said the consensus means was adopted because the APC was a united family and the APC Constitution allowed the use of direct, indirect or consensus mode of elected officials of the party.

He said consensus had been used in the past to successfully conduct various elections for its officials, saying the same group that conducted those elections, was the same group that had come to do the same in the delegates’ congresses.

The congress had now produced five ward delegates, five LGA delegates and three national delegates, which have all been confirmed by the INEC and the APC Delegates from the National Headquarters of the party.
