Two thousand, three hundred delegates have unanimously elected Mr. Alphonsus Ogar Eba as the chapter chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Cross River State, south-south Nigeria.
Eba, a legal practitioner, and 35 others emerged as the new executive of the APC Cross River through an earlier consensus, which was affirmed at the congress held on the U. J. Esuene stadium in Calabar, the state capital.
Conducted by the Chairman of the Electoral Committee for Cross River, Mr. Abubakar Malami, the affirmation was a voice vote by delegates drawn from 18 local government areas of the state.
Malami stated that the affirmation by voice vote was upheld by Article 20 of the APC constitution, a process he agreed was legally acceptable to members.
He commended the leader of the party, Governor Ben Ayade for ensuring that APC Cross River congress was peaceful and devoid of any form of acrimony.
Generational power shift
Shortly after the election, the newly elected chairman, Mr. Eba in a thank you speech, commended Professor Ayade for the peaceful process that has created and sustained internal democracy in the party.
Eba described the outcome of the congress as “a generational shift of power from the older politicians to the younger ones and the will of God”.
He stated, “Our political evangelism commences today.We have just one assignment and that is to win the Ogoja – Yala federal constituency seat in the forthcoming by-election. We must ensure that we win the elections in 2023. With your support and encouragement, we will deliver on our mandate to completely take over all the elective positions in Cross River State.”
In a brief remark, Governor Ayade congratulated the newly elected executive and charged them to leave nothing to chance.
He said, “I congratulate you on your victory and commend the election committee for its commitment to transparency. We are committed to moving our party and state forward as we move on to consolidate on our achievements of the last six years.
“I urge you all to work as one and work hard to win all the elective seats in the state and at the national,” Ayade urged.
The congress was attended by prominent stakeholders such as the Minister of State for Power, Mr. Goddy Jeddy Agba, the former Senate Leader, Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, the former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Pastor Usani Uguru Usani, Senator John Owan-Enoh and a member representing Abi-Yakurr Federal Constituency, Alex Egbona.
Others included members representing Bekwara, Obanliku and Obudu federal constituency, Legor Idagbo and his counterpart representing Obubra-Etung, Mike Etaba, Speaker of the House of Assembly, Eteng Jones Williams and Princess Florence Ita-Giwa.
