By Aanya Igomu, Abuja
The Forum of Governors on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC has said that it will comment on the postponement of the party’s National Convention from February to March 26 after meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday, February 22.
The Chairman of the Progressives Governors Forum, PGF, who is also the Governor of Kebbi State, Abubakar Bagudu, said this while addressing newsmen at the end of the forum’s meeting late Monday night.
“As a meeting, we are going to meet with President Buhari tomorrow (today) for further discussion on the party’s National Convention and other issues.
“And until we meet with the president, we will rather not comment on any timetable or any activities,” Bagudu said.
A few hours prior to the PGF meeting, the APC Caretaker and Extra-ordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) had released a new timetable and schedule of activities for the party’s planned National Convention and Zonal Congresses.
According to the new timetable, activities for the APC National Convention will commence on February 24 with the publication of zonal committees for the party’s zonal congresses which is to hold March 12.
The Caretaker Committee was however, silent on zoning of offices to the different geopolitical areas in Nigeria which is an essential aspect of preparations for the Convention.
Governor Bagudu said the meeting discussed developments in the states and reviewed the recent Federal Capital Territory, FCT Council elections and the just concluded Osun primaries.
He added that the meeting also discussed the Court judgement that resolved the 2021 Kano congress issue
“We had briefings from the Chairman of the Caretaker and Extra-ordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) of the party, Gov. Mai-Mala Buni of Yobe,” he said.
Bagudu promised that the APC governors would continue to earn the confidence of Nigerians by delivering on their electoral mandates transparently.
He appreciated Nigerians for showing interest in happenings within the party’s ranks and files, adding that the PGF would continue to work with other stakeholders in the party to enthrone good governance.
