The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai’s claims that the party has deviated from its founding progressive ideals.
El-Rufai made the claim in a recent interview with BBC Hausa adding that President Tinubu’s administration is working to weaken opposition parties by threatening Nigeria’s democratic system.
While describing El-Rufai’s comments as “grudge-laden tirades” fueled by personal disappointment and a failed bid for a ministerial appointment under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the APC’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka noted that El-Rufai’s criticism is driven by self-interest rather than genuine concern for Nigeria’s political direction.
The party observed that El-Rufai, once a vocal critic of self-serving politicians, has now become the very thing he once denounced.
The APC also responded to El-Rufai’s claim that President Tinubu has failed, labeling it as “outrageous” and a “gross distortion of reality.”
The party highlighted several economic achievements under President Tinubu’s leadership, including the removal of fuel subsidy: saving Nigeria an estimated ₦4 trillion annually,
Unification of Exchange Rates: leading to increased foreign exchange inflow and stronger foreign reserves
Economic Diplomacy: attracting significant foreign direct investments
Oil Sector Reforms: resulting in an increase in crude oil exports to 1.8 million barrels per day.
Mr. Morka challenged El-Rufai to engage in constructive criticism or offer alternative policies, rather than spreading propaganda and misinformation.
