APC Distances Itself from Crises within Opposition PDP
By Hauwa Gidado, Abuja
The governing All Progressives Congress, APC, has distanced itself from the ongoing crises within the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, asserting that the PDP is solely responsible for its internal turmoil.
APC’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka in a statement criticised PDP Governors’ Forum Chairman and Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed for claiming that the APC created the PDP’s issues.
During a meeting with the PDP Board of Trustees on September 18, 2024, Governor Mohammed alleged that the APC was behind the party’s crisis. In response, the APC declared that the PDP has long been a “cesspool of sleaze, crisis, and dysfunction,” and that these problems are intrinsic to the party.
Morka stated, “The PDP is the sole author of its intractable crisis. A party incapable of managing its internal affairs cannot be trusted to govern Nigeria.”
He pointed out that Governor Mohammed was either unaware of his party’s history or was deliberately misrepresenting it.
Mr. Morka highlighted the longstanding leadership issues within the PDP, mentioning various former national chairmen and the party’s recent failure to adhere to its constitutional guidelines on zoning and power-sharing.
“The PDP is the sole author of the intractable crisis that bedevils it. A party so grossly inept and incapable of governing its own internal affairs cannot possibly be trusted with the important task of governing Africa’s most populous country,” he said.
Dismissing Governor Mohammed’s accusations, Morka maintained that the APC was focused on fulfilling its responsibilities to the Nigerian electorate and does not engage in the PDP’s internal conflicts.
“Rather than point fingers at our great Party for its endless woes, Governor Mohammed and his partners in crisis should eat the humble pie, and search within for solutions or, better still, save us all the trouble and wind down altogether,”Mr. Morka added.
