APC Elects Nentawe Yilwatda As National Chairman

The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has elected the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, as the new National Chairman of the party.

Yilwatda’s appointment was moved in a motion of consensus by the Chairman Progressives Governor’s Forum and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma and seconded by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas.

Professor Yilwatda was immediately sworn in by the Legal Practitioner, Oghenovo Otemu.

He took an oath of office to discharge his duties to the best of his ability in accordance with the constitution of the party and in the interest, solidarity wellbeing and prosperity of the party as contained in its manifesto.

Governor Uzodinma announced that the remaining newly elected party officials would  be sworn in by the newly elected party Chairman at the National Secretariat of the party.

Addressing party leaders after his emergence, Yilwatda thanked the President, Party leaders and promised that to work together with the APC NEC to move the party to its next phase of growth.

He promised to build and expand the party and ensure healthy internal democracy that would prevail in the party during his tenure.

“I will trust and look upto the leadership of the party and all of us to fulfill the dreams that Nigerians have in the APC, ” he said.

Yilwatda’s emergence comes following the resignation of the former chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, who stepped down last month citing health-related concerns.

Yilwatda, a technocrat and a widely regarded loyal party member also a former governorship candidate in Plateau State.

Thursday’s NEC meeting was presided over by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and attended by key stakeholders, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, APC governors, former Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo and members of the National Working Committee (NWC).

His appointment is expected to usher in a fresh phase of leadership within the APC as it navigates internal reforms and prepares for future electoral challenges.

Born on August 8, 1968, in Dungung, Kanke LG, Plateau State, to the family of a clergy, Late Rev and Toma Yilwatda, he came with huge administrative and electoral experiences.
He was appointed in 2017 as a Commissioner with Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and posted to Benue State as the Resident Electoral Commissioner.
As a registered Engineer with Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, member of the Nigeria Society of Engineers, member of the Solar Society of Nigeria, he came as a professional after an intense networking.
