The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially inaugurated its Governorship Campaign Council ahead of the November 8 gubernatorial election in Anambra State, South-East Nigeria.

Speaking at the inauguration held in the state capital, Awka, the National Chairman of the APC, Professor Nentawe Gashiwe Yilwatda, expressed the party’s determination to secure victory in the upcoming election, describing Anambra as “too strategic to be left out of Nigeria’s mainstream political alignment.”

Represented by the APC South-East Zonal Chairman, Dr. Ijomah Arodiogbu, Yilwatda praised the unity within the state chapter, commending Anambra APC Chairman, Sir Basil Ejidike, for sustaining internal cohesion.

He also welcomed the defection of four sitting members of the Anambra State House of Assembly to the APC, noting that the party had achieved significant alignment with key political blocs in the state.

“Anambra deserves to be connected to the centre. With Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu and Senator Uche Ekwunife leading this campaign, we are confident of a new chapter for the state,” Yilwatda stated.

State Chairman, Basil Ejidike, described the campaign council’s inauguration as the starting point of grassroots mobilisation across all 21 local government areas and 326 wards.

We have built a solid, ward-based structure to deliver a clear and credible victory. The mistakes of past elections have informed a stronger, more prepared party structure,” he stated.

APC’s governorship candidate, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, outlined his vision for Anambra, focusing on security, industrial development, and energy infrastructure. He emphasised the need for practical, results-driven governance rather than political rhetoric.

“What Anambra needs now is not elaborate speeches or academic credentials alone, but decisive leadership. Our administration will focus on restoring security, supporting small and large-scale manufacturing, and building the power infrastructure needed to unlock our economic potential,” Ukachukwu said.

He highlighted plans for an Agricultural Chain Revolution, the development of industrial power plants, and the revitalisation of primary and tertiary healthcare systems.

“In Anambra, people are either farming, trading, or manufacturing. Our goal is to create the right environment for all three to thrive,” he added.

Deputy governorship candidate, Senator Uche Ekwunife, expressed confidence in the APC’s growing support base, citing the party’s recent legislative gains as a sign of momentum.

“For the first time, APC has four serving lawmakers in the Anambra House of Assembly. The tide is turning. This campaign is about aligning Anambra with the federal government to unlock development opportunities,” Ekwunife said.

Director-General of the APC Anambra Campaign Council, Chief Dozie Ikedife, and the Chairman of the Inauguration Committee, Sir Arinze Awogu, pledged their commitment to the party’s success at the polls.

Prominent party stakeholder, Johnbosco Onunkwo described the gathering as a consolidation of shared political aspirations, adding, “This is a movement of ideas, capacity, and connection to national progress.”
