Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has intensified efforts to consolidate its internal structures across the country ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In Ogun State, South-West Nigeria, party leaders held a State Congress where members of the State Executive Committee were returned for another four-year term, in what the party described as a move to ensure continuity and stability.
Party officials said; “the exercise was aimed at reinforcing unity, deepening grassroots mobilisation and strengthening internal democracy under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
The APC reaffirmed its commitment to institutional stability and progressive governance as preparations gradually build toward the next electoral cycle.
The Congress, held at the June 12 Cultural Centre in Abeokuta, the state capital, brought together 1,180 delegates and 400 statutory delegates who endorsed Mr. Yemi Sanusi and 35 other executive members through a voice affirmation vote.
The process was supervised by party officials and representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), underscoring its formal legitimacy.
Governor Dapo Abiodun described the gathering as ‘a defining moment in the party’s democratic journey,’ stressing that internal democracy must be genuinely practised rather than merely proclaimed.
He said; “Our party was founded on progressive governance, social justice, accountability, inclusiveness, and people-centered development.
“Influence-peddling and transactional politics have no place in a progressive institution.”

Governor Abiodun paid tribute to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, praising his “courageous and visionary leadership” under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
He noted that Nigeria is undergoing bold structural reforms aimed at long-term socio-economic transformation and urged party members in Ogun to align with these principles through transparent leadership and grassroots engagement.
Looking ahead to 2027, the Governor said the electoral victory would depend not on coercion or backroom bargaining but on discipline, integrity, and consistent communication of government achievements.
He urged members to expand the party’s appeal beyond its traditional base and to reconcile aggrieved stakeholders to preserve unity.
Party Structures Reinforcement
Re-elected State Chairman, Mr. Sanusi, pledged to reinforce party structures from the Ward level to the State level, describing a strong grassroots base as the backbone of any credible democratic process.
He assured members that fairness, equity, and transparency would guide the executive operations, with no room for marginalisation.
Sanusi also outlined plans to deepen youth and women participation by creating more inclusive platforms within party decision-making processes.
“Every member must be active, organized, and responsive,” he said, adding that discipline remains non-negotiable as preparations for 2027 intensify.
The Congress drew prominent figures including former Deputy Governors, Senator Olamilekan Adeola, former Senator Iyabo Obasanjo, and Minister of State for Health, Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako and other political stalwarts —demonstrating broad institutional backing for the reconstituted executive.
Party leaders described the affirmation vote as a signal of continuity and cohesion, positioning Ogun APC as united and strategically aligned ahead of Nigeria’s next electoral cycle.
With unity as its rallying message and discipline as its guiding principle, the Ogun APC appears to be seeking to project stability and consolidation.
