The All Progressives Congress (APC) has vowed to win the two legislative seats in the forthcoming by-election for Ogoja-Yala federal and Akpabuyo state constituencies in Cross River State, south-south Nigeria.
The Cross River State APC chairman made the vow shortly before flagging off campaigns for the February 26, 2022 by-election for Ogoja-Yala federal constituency at the Ogoja Township stadium.
Ogar, who presented the party’s flag to Mr Jude Ngaji, a former Chief of Staff to Governor Ben Ayade, as the APC’s candidate for the Ogoja/Yala Federal Constituency by-election, stated that members were not resting on their oars to take over elective seats in the Cross River political arena.
In an interview with Voice of Nigeria, the state APC chairman urged candidates and stakeholders: “Our advice is simple and straight. Work For APC Victory. Every party member is urged to deepen the mantra of political evangelism, which is PLUG – Peace, Love, Unity and Growth of APC.
“The election is crucial to us, and it is a must-win through a free, fair and peaceful atmosphere.”
On the campaign for Akpabuyo state constituency in the southern Cross River State district, Ogar stated, “we flagged off the campaign in Akpabuyo yesterday February 15, 2022, and commenced political evangelism where party faithfuls were going from door to door in Akpabuyo.
“We (APC) are the party to beat. We will win and win very well,” he stated with conviction.
ExCo Inauguration
Meanwhile, the State Chairman of the APC, Alphonsus Ogar, has inaugurated 35 members of the Cross River Executive Committee of the party.
Ogar, in a brief remark earlier this week, said that the people’s choice for the two legislative seats were staunch members of the APC, and no other political party fielded credible and popular candidates for the by-election.
He stated, “l am so sure that APC shall win in the by-elections in Cross River North and Akpabuyo Constituency. We have two major religions in Nigeria, and APC is the third religion after Christianity and Islam. While other people preach hatred, we in the APC preach peace and love.
“Our primaries for both elections were rancour-free, and that is a good sign. APC is prepared because we have political heavyweights in Cross River North and Akpabuyo.”
He explained that the party was mobilising faithful, including thousands of appointees from the constituencies, to embark on campaigns, which, he confidently said, would cause a victory for the APC.
“All the appointees, who are in their thousands, would be adequately mobilised and positioned to deliver our candidates. In the coming by-elections, while others are talking about money, their dollars for dollars, we are talking about the people. Cross River State is APC, and the future shall be better with APC,” he stated.
To his newly inaugurated executive members, Ogar charged them to imbibe discipline, dedication and hard work, urging that they eschew actions that may truncate the party’s success at the February 26 by-election and the 2023 general election in Cross River State.
“My Exco members and I will not sleep until we deliver on the mandate handed to us,” he assured.
