The ruling All Progressives Congress has won the by-elections into the Edo Central Senatorial District and Ovia-Northeast-Ovia Southwest Federal Constituency held on Saturday, August 16.
According to the results read out by the returning officer for the senatorial election, Prof. Omoh Iwoze, APC’s John Ikpea scored 105,129 votes to defeat his closest rival and candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, Joe Okojie, who polled 15,146 votes.
“That Ikpea Joseph of APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner of the election,” Prof. Iwoze said.
In the Federal Constituency election, APC’s Omosede Igbinedion, according to the returning officer, Clement Ighodaro, had 77,053 votes to defeat the PDP’s John Aikpitanyi, who polled 3,838 votes to emerge as the runner-up.
The by-elections took place after the incumbent Governor of the State, Monday Okpebolo, and his deputy, Dennis Idahosa, vacated their Senate and House of Representatives seats following their victory at the last governorship election.
