APGA warns members against campaigning for other political parties
The leadership of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Anambra State has warned its members against campaigning for candidates of other political parties.
The Anambra State chairman of APGA, Sir Nobert Obi, who handed the warning in a press release circulated among members of the State Working Committee and all the Local government area and Ward chairmen, said it amounted to anti-party to do so.
Reports state that the warning may have come because of the significant acceptance the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, Mr. Peter Obi, is gaining across the political parties in the State.
The Chairman said they had drawn his attention to several harmful activities of certain party members (APGA) campaigning for candidates of other political parties.
He noted, “You may wish to know that it is wrong for any member to the campaign, solicit votes, or attend any activity organized by political parties or their candidates other than our great party APGA.
“We consider such development anti-party activity and an act of indiscipline in breach of Article 21, General Code of Conduct of our great party.
“There are several cases of members belonging to WhatsApp, Facebook, and other social media platforms that promote and campaign for candidates of other political parties. Not a few even go as far as sharing posts that promote candidates who are not APGA members,” said the Chairman.
The Chairman emphasised that such action was adverse to the overall interest of APGA, which had the intention to sweep the 2023 general elections, especially in Anambra State, where the party is fielding candidates in all elective positions.
He said they would address such activity with severe disciplinary action as stated in the party’s constitution.
