Key New Features
1. Priority Notifications
One of the most notable additions is Priority Notifications. This AI-driven feature highlights time-sensitive notifications, ensuring users see the most critical alerts at the top of their stack instead of sifting through less relevant updates.
2. Image Playground and Mac Enhancements
- Image Playground Update: A new Sketch style has been added to the AI-powered image-generation app, allowing users to create more detailed and academic sketches.
- Memory Movie on Mac: Users can now generate personalised memory movies by simply typing a description, making it easier to compile and relive key moments.
3. Expansion to the EU and Vision Pro
- Apple Intelligence is now available in the European Union for iPhone and iPad users.
- Vision Pro integration: AI tools such as Writing Tools, Image Playground, and Genmoji are now accessible on Apple’s mixed reality headset in U.S. English.
4. Expanded Language Support
Apple Intelligence now supports additional languages, including:
- French
- German
- Italian
- Portuguese (Brazil)
- Spanish
- Japanese
- Korean
Chinese (Simplified) Localised English variations for Singapore and India have also been introduced.
Steady AI Rollout Continues
Since its introduction at WWDC 2024, Apple Intelligence has been gradually expanding. Key AI-powered features such as ChatGPT integration and Image Playground were only introduced with iOS 18.2 and macOS Sequoia 15.2, reflecting Apple’s phased approach to AI deployment.
Additional Updates in iOS 18.4 & macOS Sequoia 15.4
- New Emojis: Apple has added fresh emoji options, including a paint splatter, a sleep-deprived face, a fingerprint, a root vegetable, and a shovel.
- Apple News+ Food: The newly announced recipe companion arrives, providing curated cooking content.
- Child Safety Features: Enhancements to parental controls and security settings for younger users.
- Apple Photos Improvements: Further refinements to Apple’s photo management and editing tools.
EU Release Follows Initial Delay
Apple had previously cited EU tech regulations, particularly the Digital Markets Act, as the reason for postponing Apple Intelligence’s European launch.
Despite this, the suite has now arrived in the region as part of the latest update.
With Apple Intelligence continuing to evolve, users can expect more AI-driven features in future software updates.
