The Anglican Bishop of Enugu, Arch Bishop Emmanuel Chukwuma, has decried the bad state of hospitals and other medical institutions in Nigeria.
Arch Bishop Chukwuma who was speaking in Enugu while commiserating with an APC Chieftain, Gbazuoagu Nweke Gbazuoagu, over the death of his wife, called on President Muhammadu Buhari to quickly transform major hospitals and other medical facilities across the six geo political zones in the country.
Arch Bishop Chukwuma regretted that Nigerians embark on medical tourism abroad where Doctors who are Nigerians treat them.
Hear him,” it amazes me that we waste a lot in this country but we can not properly fund our health institutions, it’s sad and disheartening.”
We prefer to go for medical check ups in other countries of the world thereby encouraging medical tourism in those countries,” the arch Bishop said.
Also reacting, the immediate past President of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Nnia Nwodo said that Nigeria wastes money in frivolous things rather than invest in it’s hospitals so people could have access to good medical attention. Nwodo urged President Buhari to quickly without more delay, look into health institutions and do the needful.
Those present to commiserate with the bereaved included the former governor of old Anambra state, Chief Jim Nwobodo and a host of others.
