Armed Forces, Remembrance Day: President Buhari pledges to prioritise welfare

The Nigerian President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, Muhammadu Buhari has pledged to prioritise the welfare of the families of fallen heroes in the country.

The President, who was represented by the Minister of Defence Major General (rtd) Bashir Salihi Magashi, stated this at the Jumat Prayer held at the National Mosque Abuja, as part of activities to mark the Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Defence, President Buhari noted that improving the living standard of families of the fallen heroes is a matter of national priority.

He expressed the profound gratitude of the government to the serving and retired soldiers for their sacrifices to the nation, and to the unknown soldiers who paid the supreme price towards safeguarding the Nation’s territorial integrity.

The Commander-in-Chief further described the annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration which begins with the Jumat prayers as a platform to besiege Almighty Allah to uphold the families the fallen heroes left behind and to pray for the repose of their souls.

He also seized the opportunity of to assure Nigerians that the counter terrorism, anti-banditry and other military operations in parts of the Country aimed at restoring peace are well on course with greater commitment on the parts of the Fighting troops to achieve the end state of wiping out the criminal elements threatening national survival and stability.
