The National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW) has solicited collaboration with the Media in the fight against the illicit circulation of arms in Nigeria.

The National Coordinator of the Centre, Abbah Dikko stated this when he paid a courtesy visit to the Director-General of the Nigerian Television Authority, NTA, Yakubu Ibn Mohammed in Abuja.

The visit of the National Coordinator availed the opportunity to acquaint the Director-General of the NTA with the mission and objectives of the Centre as well as progress made towards the actualization of its core mandate.

According to Dikko, the proliferation of illicit small arms and light weapons increases the insecurity situation across the country.

The Director-General raised concerns on the presence of some fake individuals and organizations parading themselves as legitimate authorities for the control of arms in the country.

He recommended that efforts be made to out-rightly stop all other illegitimate organizations purporting to have the mandate of control of small arms and light weapons in the country.

President Muhammadu Buhari had directed the establishment of the Centre on 3 May 2021 following a review of the security architecture of the country.
