Army Chief Pledges Decisive Action Against Insurgency in North East

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu has reaffirmed his commitment to dealing decisively with remnants of terrorist groups in the North East region.

General Shaibu made this known during his maiden operational assessment visit to Headquarters Joint Task Force (JTF) North East, Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), in Maiduguri, Borno State, from November 6-7, 2025.

The COAS in a statement by the spokesperson if the operation Hadin Kai LT COL UBA Sani, reiterated his commitment to providing the Nigerian Army with the necessary resources to degrade insurgents and restore lasting peace to the region.

He emphasised “the importance of denying adversaries and thanked traditional institutions and the people of Borno State for their steadfast support and intelligence cooperation.”

Resting place

The Army Chief also commissioned several welfare projects within Maimalari Cantonment, including: Construction of 30 one-bedroom flats for corporals and below and a modern facility providing a resting place for troops returning from the frontlines.

The Shehu of Borno, His Royal Highness Alhaji Dr. Abubakar Umar Garbai El-Kanemi, congratulated the COAS on his appointment and praised the Army’s contributions during humanitarian crises, including the 2024 flood disaster.

He pledged the continued support of traditional institutions to the military and other security agencies.

The COAS was accompanied by Principal Staff Officers from Army Headquarters, Sector and Component Commanders, and Principal Staff Officers of Headquarters Theatre Command Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI and 7 Division Nigerian Army.
