Army Chief Reinvigorates Troops On Counter Terrorism Mission

The Chief of Army Staff, COAS, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja is on a mission to reinvigorate ongoing Counter terrorism counter-insurgency operations being conducted by troops of Joint Task Force Operation HADIN KAI in the North East Theatre of Operations.

According to a statement by the Director of Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Army Chief arrived in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state on Thursday, for an operational tour to assess the security situation.

General Lagbaja was briefed by the Theatre Commander Major General Golden Chibuisi on the current security situation of the North East, ongoing operational activities to clear terrorists from their enclaves in the Lake Chad region, the Mandara mountains as well as the challenges of the Task force.

General Lagbaja applauded the troops for the operational successes attained so far and observed that new trends have been noticed in the activities of the terrorists who are now reverting to abduction for ransome, pillaging for logistics, and attacking civilians with Improvised Explosive Device ( IED).

He assured the troops that Combat enablers would be provided to support the ongoing operations to further ensure more pronounced stability in the region.

More updates will be provided as the Army Chief continues its operational tour of the Northeast Theatre of Operations.
