The Chief of Army Staff, COAS, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede has urged participants of the Army War College Nigeria (AWCN) Course 9/2025 to develop strategic solutions that would enhance military operations and bolster national security.
According to a statement by the College Public Relations Officer, Major Hashimu Abdullahi, the COAS made this call while delivering a lecture at the College in Abuja.
Speaking on the critical role of leadership in military effectiveness, Lt General Oluyede emphasised that “strong leadership is the foundation of a functional and efficient army.”
He encouraged the participants to prioritise exemplary leadership, accountability, mutual trust, unity of purpose, and selfless service.
The Army Chief also highlighted the significance of the Nigerian Army’s core values- loyalty, courage, integrity, discipline, selfless service, and respect for others.
He stressed that upholding these principles would enhance professionalism, competence, adherence to basic soldiering principles, and regimentation.
In response, the Commandant of AWCN, Major General Umar Mohammed Alkali, expressed gratitude to the COAS for his insightful lecture.
General Alkali noted that the session had deepened participants’ understanding of leadership, operational efficiency, and national security imperatives.
