The Chief Of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya has charged Commanders at all levels to intensify Warrior ethos and regimentation in the Nigerian Army towards creating bonds, cohesion and discipline required for successful military operations.
The COAS made this gave the charge on Thursday 6 Oct 2022, when he declared open a seminar on Intensifying Warrior Ethos and Regimentation in the Nigerian Army.
According to a statement by by the Acting Deputy Director Army Public Relations 3 Division Nigerian Army, Major Ishaku Takwa, the event was organized by the Department Of Transformation and Innovation Army at Headquarters 3 Division Jos, Plateau State.
The COAS said with the myriad of complex security challenges bedevilling the country and the enormous responsibility it brings, the Nigerian Army will continue to review its tactics and techniques in order to come up with strategies to overcome the country’s adversaries.
He also noted that enhancing troops capacity in basic tenets, ethics and rudiments of soldiering such as warrior ethos and regimentation will yield desired outcomes in theatres of operations.
The COAS who was represented by the General Officer Commanding 3 Division Nigerian Army and Commander Operation SAFE HAVEN, Major General Ibrahim Ali, further charged commanders at all levels to redirect their efforts towards rejuvenating team work, training, discipline and show leadership by example to achieving the desired goal.
In an address of welcome, the Chief of Transformation and Innovation, Department of Transformation and Innovation Army, Major General Charles Ofoche stated that the aim of the seminar was to sharpen the fighting Spirit of troops and boost the tenets of basic soldiering, strict adherence to the customs, traditions and ethics of the Nigerian Army to enhance troops patriotic posture to defeat adversaries.
General Ofoche posited that the department remains the hub for creative thinking and ideas for the Nigerian Army and charged participants to make good use of the opportunity to tap from the wealth of knowledge of resources person and refresh their memory on regimentation and warrior ethos as pillars of military profession.
He said the Army profession has no place for cowardice and urged personnel to rise up to security challenges by completely annihilating the enemies of the state.
Delivering their lectures on “Regimentation as a Critical Enabler For Combat Efficiency in the Nigerian Army” and “Enhancing Warrior Ethos in the Nigerian Army for improved combat effectiveness,” guest speakers, Brigadier General Hassan Lai and Brigadier General John Temlong (Rtd) said the primary function of a soldier is to fight and defeat the enemies of the state.
The lectures posit that, integrity, professional competence, transparency, teamwork, ethical performance as well as mental, physical and emotional attributes are necessary threats that reinforces warriors ethos.
Highlights of the event were interactive session, group photograph and presentation of souvenirs to resource persons and moderator.
