Army Commander Charges Troops on Professionalism, Discipline

The General Officer Commanding 8 Division and Commander, Joint Taskforce North West Operation Hadarin Daji, Major General Godwin Mutkut, has charged troops of the Nigerian Army to continue to Exhibit high level of professionalism and discipline while discharging their duties.

General Mutkut gave the Charge at the end of a four-day Inter-Brigade competition of Warrant and Non-commissioned officers in Sokoto State.

He noted that Army personnel would continue to receive more training both in peace and war times as the bedrock of the military profession in the country.

General Mutkut further said the competition was part of the 8 Division commitments to avail its officers and junior officers opportunity to refresh their experiences for better Nigerian Army.

According to him, the main objectives of the competition, is to also enhance physical endurance, improve leadership traits, organizational ability and to foster esprit-de- corps of participating troops.

He noted that the training activity was also in tandem with the desire to ensure that Army Headquarters training directives were carried out.

“This is in order to provide our troops with the necessary training in line with the Chief of Army Staff’s command philosophy which is, “To Transform the Nigerian Army into a Well-trained, Equipped and highly motivated Force towards achieving our Constitutional Responsibilities within a Joint Environment. 

“For this reason, I wish to state that 8 Division, remains determined and resolute in our collective responsibility at ensuring that the physical fitness of our troops is given priority,” he said.

He reminded the participants of the enormous responsibilities and critical role expected of them especially at this critical time that the Nigerian armed forces are engaged in various operations across the country.

“Apart from breaching the gap between officers and Junior Non-commissioned officers, you are required to exhibit the highest level of discipline and professional competence at all times. 

 “This competition has therefore given you the opportunity to display your potentials and at same time develop your professional abilities.

 “I therefore urge you to take back to your formations and units the experience gained, by putting it in good use for the overall benefit of the Nigerian Army and the Armed Forces in general”, he added.

General Mutkut appreciated the host formation, 8 Division Garrison, umpires, Judges and other officials for providing an enabling environment for the conduct of the competition.

He further commended the participants for their perseverance, commitment and the spirit of sportsmanship they exhibited throughout the period of the competition.

The 8 Division Inter-Brigade officers’ competition had participants from 1 Brigade Zamfara, 17 brigade Katsina and 8 Division Garrison.

The three brigades competed in Map Reading, Drill, Obstacle Crossing, Swimming, Weapon Handling and Cardiovascular Fitness and 3.5km Run.

8 division Garrison Emerged first position, 17 brigade Katsina state came second and 1 brigade from zamfara emerged 3rd position.
