The General Officer Commanding the 8 Division of the Nigerian Army and Commander of Joint Taskforce (North West) Operation HADARIN DAJI, Major General Godwin Micheal Mutkut, has charged young officers to remain resolute and steadfast in discharging their constitutional roles.
He gave the charge during the closing ceremony of the 8 Division Inter-Brigade Combat Proficiency Competition on Friday, October 6, at Giginya Cantonment Sokoto.
The Commanding Officer who was represented by Commander 8 Division Garrison, Brigadier General Amos Tawasimi said the young Officer’s professional conduct as trained personnel is needed now more than ever in surmounting the global contemporary security challenges.
He pointed out that the level of insecurity in the country and the world at large requires consistent training of personnel to enable the armed forces to secure the lives and property of law-abiding citizens.
The Inter-Brigade competition had 4 formations in participation including 1 Brigade Gusau, 17 Brigade Katsina, 8 Division Garrison, and 48 Engineer Brigade that competed in Map Reading, Combat Swimming, Weapon Handling, 10km Combat Race, and Obstacle Crossing.
At the end of the competition, the host formation 1 Brigade emerged first, 17 Brigade, while 48 Engineer Brigade and 8 Division Garrison emerged 3rd and 4th respectively.
The Inter-Brigade competition is part of Army Headquarters’ yearly training activities which are aimed at enhancing sportsmanship and teamwork to maintain esprit-de-corps among personnel of the Nigerian Army especially when in theatres of operations.
