Army starts Housing scheme for Fallen Heroes Next of Kin

The Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has virtually performed the ground breaking ceremony of a housing scheme meant to cater for the Next of Kin of the Officers and Soldiers killed in action.

The ceremony is part of the events lined up for the 2020 Chief of Army Staff Conference.

President Buhari also commiserated with the families of the fallen heroes while declaring open the Conference which took place at the Army Cyber Warfare Command, Giri, Abuja.

“I assure you that this administration will continue to do all within available resources to provide  for your operation and welfare needs, we must strengthen our resolve to address issues that will make every part of our country a safe and secure place to live and carry out our normal businesses,” he stated.

The President paid tribute to men and women in uniform who made the supreme sacrifice in defending the nation.

He said; ”I believes the housing initiative will act as a huge morale booster to the troops that are still at the forefront of the war against insurgency and other criminalities in the country.”

In line with the provision of welfare for the officers and men of the Nigerian Army, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant  General Tukur Buratai accompanied by other dignitaries also launched a post housing scheme as part of the army housing development programmes at Life Camp.

According to General Buratai, the housing scheme is part of the plans to give officers of the Nigerian Army a comfortable life after retirement.

“This is further attestation to the fact that we appreciate the sacrifices of our fallen heroes, while we are doing that at the same time we are also taking care of our combatants who are still fighting across the country and considering them retiring in a comfortable environment,” he said.

This years conference with the theme “Human Capacity Development in Sustaining Professionalism and Responsiveness of the Nigerian Army in the Discharge of its Constitutional Roles,” runs from the 7th to 11th of December, 2020.
