The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to operational readiness, troop welfare, and national security.
General Oluyede made this known at the end of a three-day operational tour of 6 Division, where he commissioned critical infrastructure projects and had engagements with authorities and troops across Rivers, Bayelsa, and Akwa Ibom States, in Southern Nigeria.
During his visit to Port Harcourt Barracks in Rivers State, the Army Chief inaugurated the Headquarters 6 Division Office Complex Extension and the Python Harmony Centre, completed under the leadership of Brigadier General S. Ahmed.
Other projects completed under his leadership included new and remodeled Corporal and Below Quarters (CBQs) and a remodeled Cantonment Office.
Similarly, the renovated Quarter Guard and CBQs at 29 Battalion were commissioned.

In Bayelsa State, General Oluyede unveiled the 16 Brigade Annex Complex, executed by Brigade Commander Brigadier General Oluremi Obolo,
He also commissioned an electrification project undertaken by Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, a newly built Garrison House by Lieutenant Colonel Sheriff Kaigama, and the remodeled 5 Battalion Quarter Guard.
At Elele Barracks, he inaugurated the 343 Artillery Regiment CO’s House, a transformer installation, and laid the foundation for 20 two-bedroom flats for Senior NCOs.
In Akwa Ibom State, General Oluyede inspected the renovated Medical Reception Station at Wellington Barracks, Ibagwa Barracks.

National peace
As part of the strategic leadership engagements, he met the State Governor, Umo Eno, praised his support for the Nigerian Army and reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to national peace.
Governor Eno commended the Army’s contributions to security, peace, and development, highlighting robust civil-military relations under Commander 2 Brigade, Brigadier General Alex Tawasimi.
The Army Chief also addressed troops at 29 Battalion Parade Ground, Port Harcourt, and 6 Battalion Parade Ground, Ibagwa, Abak LGA.
He commended their resilience in anti-oil theft and pipeline protection operations and emphasising troop welfare under his “soldier first” concept.
