Troops from the 6 Division of the Nigerian Army have averted what could have been a major fire outbreak in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Wednesday.

The incident occurred when a tanker carrying premium motor spirit (PMS) overturned at the Rumuokwuta Roundabout, posing a serious fire hazard in the busy area.

Quick action by the troops, led by Acting Commanding Officer of the 760 Transport Battalion, Major Almustapha Shawwal Adams, prevented the situation from escalating. The 6 Division Fire Crew was swiftly deployed to the scene, where they successfully prevented a potential disaster.

A statement issued by Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Danjuma Jonah, confirmed that the operation was carried out in collaboration with other security agencies.

He noted that “all safety and security protocols were strictly observed, with the area being cordoned off and preventive drills conducted.

No lives or property were lost, as the situation was brought under control,” Jonah added.

The Army’s response was part of its ongoing commitment to Civil-Military Relations and its efforts to support local communities.

The General Officer Commanding, 6 Division, Major General Jamal Abdussalam has praised the troops for their swift response.

He reassured the people of Rivers State of the Army’s dedication to ensuring their safety, in line with the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja’s command philosophy of people-centered operations.
