The Plateau House Assembly has requested Governor Caleb Mutfwang to suspend all the 17 Local government political structures over financial impropriety.

The House, presided over by its Speaker Abok Ayuba, arrived at the resolution on Thursday, following a motion of notice by Pirfa Tyem, member representing Langtang North-North State Constituency.

The lawmakers requested that the Chairmen and indeed all political local government structures remain suspended pending the outcome of the investigations against their councils.

The legislators stated “the resolution became imperative after the local government chairmen failed to furnish the assembly with their income and expenditure profiles as requested.”

They said; “The leadership of the house is in receipt of a petition against the 17 local government councils of Plateau bordering on financial impropriety and misuse of office.

“The leadership of the House requested the 17 local government councils via a letter dated May 25 to submit for scrutiny all income and expenditure profiles of the councils on May 30.

“None of them honoured the said request to make submissions.”

“Given the foregoing therefore, the House resolve to request the executive governor of Plateau to direct the suspension of all political structures at the local government level pending the conclusion of investigations into the said petition,” the lawmaker said.

The House during the plenary, screed and confirmed Mr Samuel Jatau as Secretary to the Government of the State (SGS).

Jatau, a retired director in the Plateau civil service, was a governorship aspirant in 2019 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The House also screened and confirmed Mr Philemon Dafi as Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice.

Dafi is a seasoned legal practitioner with more than 30 years of active legal practice. He is a member of the Council for Legal Education.

The screening and confirmation of the duo was sequel to a letter by Governor Caleb Mutfwang to the legislative arm to that effect.

The House also passed a bill for a law to establish Plateau State Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP) and Plateau State Rural Access Roads Agency (RARA) 2022.
