The Nigerian Minister of Interior, Mr Rauf Aregbesola says there is a need to access the Performance Review Meeting instituted to monitor the contributions of the Ministry as part of the Federal Government’s priority areas towards protecting the lives and property of citizens.
The Minister made this known during the third and fourth quarter’s performance review meeting of the ministry in Abuja, the nation’s capital.
“The purpose of the Quarterly Performance Review Meeting is to review the overall quarterly Performance of the Ministry against the agreed targets and provide a forum for strategic planning, discussions and policy recommendations and action thereby identifying whether the Ministry is meeting the expectations of the public it serves”.
According to him, the achievements of the Paramilitary are one of the core mandates of the Ministry considering the various security challenges Nigeria is faced with.
He noted some of the achievements of the agency that the first-ever Female Response Squad was established by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps to support the safe school initiative of the Nigerian Government and are being deployed across the State Commands of the Agency to protect students from being kidnapped in schools.
The Minister said; “The opening of more fire stations and operations of the Federal Fire Service from 14 States and FCT before this Administration to the 36 States of the Federation, all of them equipped with modern fire-fighting equipment, launching of the Nigeria Immigration Service Code of Conduct and Ethics document”.
The Minister also said that “It is the duty of the ministry to eliminate any form of negativity in their operation and services adding that the agency should investigate any complaint instead of keeping quiet.”
He also explained that misarranging one’s name in his or her database would be impossible to issue a passport because the data base is similar.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Mr Belgore Shuaib noted that the meeting was expected to provide the ministry with the opportunity to access the extent of their achievements with respect to key performance indicators which earlier have been established by the federal government.
Mr Shuaib said that “their mandate is to foster internal security and public safety among others”.
He noted that after the meeting, any gap in the agency will be filled through their deliberations.
The meeting had both the officers of Civil Defence, Fire Service and Correctional Services amongst others.
