Assets Declaration: CCB calls for strict compliance

The Code of Conduct Bureau has called strict compliance with the assets declaration exercise for public officials in Nigeria.

The Chairman, Code of Conduct Bureau, Professor Mohammed lsah, made the call at a one day workshop on strict compliance with Assets Official in Abuja, Nigeria.

Professor Isah, said that in the mandate the clients are essentially the public Officers, stressing that anybody who earns salary from the government is a public officer, starting from Mr President to the lower level of a civil servant.

“So for us as Code of Conduct our clients are not less than ten million given all the Public Officers that we have in the federation including those that are in the forces, paramilitary, local government, state officials, elected officers as well as appointed Officers.”

He also disclosed that the constitution envisaged that for the Nation to make proper use of the resources which are in the custody of the public Officers there was a need to guide as far as their conduct is concerned when it comes to their business.

“We know that in the early days of public officers they were expected to discharge and implement public policies that have been rolled down by the political officers.

He further explained that public officials used to emphasize two ways as at that time, that is discharging their responsibilities efficiently and effectively with integrity.

The Chairman maintained that the issues of integrity came in when they found out that those that have been given the opportunity to custody public resources are diverting it to their own personal accounts which is now referred to as corruption.

He stressed that sure act was wrong and usually reduces productivity, economic progress.

The Statistician-General of the federation, Dr Simeon Harry considered the training as a welcome development, appreciates all the participants and the Officers of the Code of Conduct Bureau for the collaboration for them to create awareness on the rules of the Code of Conduct Bureau.
