The Parent Teachers Association, PTA has called for massive recruitment of teachers in Nigeria, to tackle educational challenges.
The National President of the Association, Alhaji Danjuma Haruna who made the call, urged the Nigerian and States governments to as a matter of urgency, recruit trained and qualified teachers.
This he said, would reduce the challenges affecting the educational sector.
Haruna said the current insecurity challenges amidst the Covid-19 pandemic in the Northern part of the country have negative consequences on the Sector; the Primary, Secondary and Tertiary institution inclusive.
He also emphasised on equipping classrooms with the latest digital teaching aids to enhance modern technological learning.
“There is need to employ qualified teachers from Colleges of education and other Higher tertiary institutions across the nation to boost learning conditions,’’ he explained.
Decongestion
Haruna called the government to decongest classrooms for concentration and effective teacher to student interaction.
He stated that: “Since the Covid-19 lockdown, Education started facing different challenges, hence the need for new innovative ideas and strategies to tackle the issues…And decongestion of classrooms would also reduce large crowd of students in a class handled by a single teacher.”
“It’s really unfortunate that some students are over 80-90 in a classroom, and that is too much for a teacher to handle.”
Appreciating the Kaduna State Governor, Nasiru El-rufai for re-opening of schools, Haruna appealed for the provision of adequate security around schools across the 23 Local governments of the state.
He also urged other states in the North to boost security around school premises and other parts, to tackle insecurity bedevilling peace stability in the education sector.
Protection of Children
He also called for synergy among security forces which could help in protection of children and teachers in schools across the country.
Haruna urged stakeholders, traditional and religious leaders to support the protection of schools’ environment, to halter the activities of bandit terrorising the nation.
He also called for special prayers for security forces on the battle ground for their victory over Boko Haram and banditry.
He advised Students to keep observing the Covid-19 protocols which include; regular hand wash, wearing of facemasks and social distancing.
