The Association of Albinism has called on the Federal government and other relevant stakeholders to assist them with sunscreen lotion to prevent their skin from cancer during the Harmattan period.
The State Chairman Albinism Association of Nigeria, Kaduna state chapter, Abubakar Adams made this known in an interview at the Kaduna state Rehabilitation centre on Tuesday
According to him, harmattan is very good weather for Albinism, for both children and adults, while at the same time endangering their skin.
Abubakar said that the harshness of the weather causes dryness and cracks in the skin which mostly resulted in skin cancer in Albinism.
“As the skin is exposed to the dryness of the weather, it cracks the skin, and due to this a sunscreen lotion is needed to prevent the body from being exposed to harsh weather’’, he said
“The High density of the sun between 11 am to 4 pm penetrates directly into the skin, which affects the people with albinism most, and we encourage our members to endeavour not to contact it by completely abstaining from the sun”.
According to him, if they must come out of their home in the afternoon, must properly cover their skin from being exposed to the harshness of the weather, as well prevent the eyes from the sun to prevent blindness.
He urged persons with albinism to always apply sunscreen lotion to avoid skin cancer which affects the body including the lips legs and other parts of the body.
Abubakar continued by saying that, sunscreen lotion is very expensive and cannot always be afforded by most people with albinism, hence the need for all well-to-do individuals to support them financially.
He then called on the government and all relevant stakeholders to please provide them with sunscreen lotion to avert them from contracting Skin Cancer and other related diseases that may be caused by the Harmattan weather.
He added that albinism did not need any pity from anyone, rather than support from people to supply them with Sun Screen Lotion to keep their skin smooth and prevent skin cancer.
