Association To Host Conference On Women’s Role In Technological Innovation

In order to boost the involvement of women and girls in technology, the Nigerian Association of Technologists in Engineering (NATE) and the Association of Professional Women Engineering Technologists (APWET) are organizing a seminar focused on addressing technological advancement, innovation, and their societal impact.
The association is the Women’s wing of the Nigerian Association of Technologists in Engineering (NATE) which is a Professional Body of Practical Engineers, and one of the bodies that formed the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN).
In a statement by the Secretary of the association, Ogechi Okereke Ogbonna said the APWET 2024 Seminar is scheduled to hold between Wednesday 6th and Friday 8th March in Abuja, Nigeria, with the theme “Professional Women and the Society”.
The Chairperson of the Association, Ms Umma Umar Jega explained that the event will be a comprehensive exploration of the themes surrounding professional women.

Speaking on mission of APWET, She said the association major aim is to promote professional excellence among Technologists, Engineers, Technicians and Craftsmen.
“The aim of APWET is to promote women and girl child Education in the field of Engineering Technology and one of the objective of the wing is to superintend and protect the interest of all female graduates of Engineering Technology either from Polytechnics or Universities thereby fostering self-reliance of technological development of our great Country” she said
The Chairperson said this can be achieved through periodic hosting of seminars, workshops and other beneficial programmes.
“The seminar aims to be a comprehensive exploration of the themes surrounding professional women, addressing technological advancement, innovation, and the multifaceted roles they play in society.
“Through insightful discussions and shared experiences, the event aims to empower, inspire, and contribute to the advancement of women in various professional domains ” Jega stated.
According to the association, the event will raise awareness about the importance of gender equality in various professional spheres and advocate for positive changes in societal perceptions and expectations.
It will also “Provide attendees with inspiring stories and role models to motivate and empower them in their personal and professional journeys.
“Facilitate the exchange of knowledge, experiences, and best practices among participants to enhance their understanding of the challenges and opportunities faced by professional women.
“Foster a supportive community by facilitating networking opportunities, encouraging collaboration, and creating a platform for professional women to connect with each other.
“Provide practical insights and skills for attendees to navigate challenges, enhance their professional capabilities, and thrive in their careers while maintaining a healthy work-life balance” the association added.
