The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has asked its Counsel, Femi Falana, to appeal on Thursday the ruling of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria which ordered the lecturers to call off their seven-month-old strike.

The Secretary General of the Committee Of Vice Chancellors of Nigerian Universities CVCNU, Professor Yakubu Ochefu confirmed this to Voice of Nigeria on Wednesday evening after the ruling of the court.

Prof. Ochefu also said the Academic Staff Union of Universities is a law-abiding Association that will abide by the laws of Nigeria while it pursues its position to a logical conclusion.

“I can confirm that ASUU has asked the counsel to file for an appeal on Thursday and I know the Union to be a law-abiding Association so I believe they will obey the court order while they pursue their stand to logical conclusions.

He also disclosed that ASUU will obtain a stay of Execution against the judgement.

Meanwhile, Voice of Nigeria made several efforts to reach the ASUU President, Comrade Emmanuel Osodeke for a response after the Wednesday judgement, but this was to no avail.

The Members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities embarked on the 14th of February 2022 over issues regarding the adoption of the Integrated Personnel Payroll Information System (IPPIS) of the government as the payment system in the university sector, among other issues.

Several attempts to return the lecturers to the classroom have proved abortive.
