Athletes Will ‘Make Nigeria Proud’ At Commonwealth Games – NOC President
President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), Habu Ahmed Gumel, has expressed optimism that the athletes representing the country at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games “will make Nigeria proud.”
The Commonwealth Games will is scheduled to hold from July 28th – 8th August, 2022.
Gumel, who spoke at this year’s Olympic Day Celebration held at the National Stadium in Lagos, said all necessary preparations have been made to ensure the travelling documents for the trip to the United Kingdom are in order.
He added that athletes are not only preparing for the Games in Birmingham, but also for the 2021 Islamic Solidarity Games to hold from August 9th – 18th in Konya, Turkey.
“The athletes are expected to go to Birmingham and give their best to make Nigeria proud. And not only are they preparing for the Games in Birmingham, but also Islamic Solidarity Games,” Gumel said.
“We have already named all the athletes going both to Birmingham and Konya. The athletes are already collecting their visas and we have gone very far as regards that. Already, we have the list of all the athletes that we will be taking to the two games.”
“We do not have any problem as many of our athletes have already done their biometrics, so we don’t have any problem,” Gumel concluded.
