Presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in the 2023 Presidential election, Atiku Abubakar has formally resigned from the party.
In a letter of resignation to the PDP Chairman of his ward, Jada 1 Ward Jada LGA, Adamawa State, northeast Nigeria, Atiku said resigning his membership from the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, is with immediate effect.
The former Vice President who is also a founding father of the PDP said it is heartbreaking for him to make this decision.
“However, I find it necessary to part ways due to the current trajectory the Party has taken, which I believe diverges from the foundational principles we stood for. It is with a heavy heart that I resign, recognising the irreconcilable differences that have emerged”.
He expressed gratitude to the party for the opportunities and support given to him by the Party to serve. “Serving two full terms as Vice President of Nigeria and being a Presidential candidate wice has been one of the most significant chapters of my life”.
Atiku said he wishes the Party and its leadership all the best in the future.
Speculations had been rift that Atiku Abubakar, who contested and lost the Presidential election four times, would take this route after he teamed up with other opposition political parties to form a coalition to take on the APC and President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 Presidential election.
