Authorities Raid Fake Beverage Manufacturing Factory in Anambra

The government of Anambra State and federal taskforce, over the weekend, sealed an illegal wine manufacturing company in Nkpor, Idemili North Local Government Area of the State.

According to a statement issued by the Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (OCHA Brigade), the illegal company specialised in the mass production of different types of fake wines and other exotic drinks in the State.

It was further gathered that the nameless company had been in the business for years, maintaining high level of secrecy in their activities, till the recent discovery and invasion of the factory.

While noting that the operation was carried out through the joint efforts of the federal and the state governments’ forces, OCHA Brigade, in the statement also noted that no fewer than seven persons were arrested during the operation.

The statement read, “Officers of Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (OCHA Brigade) were at Nkpor, Anambra, to confiscate and seal off a local manufacturing company that specialized in the mass production of fake wines and other exotic drinks in the State.

“This fake wine company has over the years produced and distributed several types of fake and unapproved wines in large quantities and distributed for general consumption.

“The Operation was led by Federal Government Presidential taskforce, in collaboration with Anambra State Government against economic sabotage and oil vandalism in the State.

“Seven suspects were arrested and others being questioned to unravel other syndicates that have contributed to high circulation of fake products which have caused numerous ailments amongst Ndi Anambra. The suspects have been arraigned and will face prosecution, as more efforts are in place to arrest others.”
